Objective
Brings beloved stories, characters and settings to life through immersive, shareable experiences for people of all ages.
The Pitch
Scooby-Doo: Monster Mayhem is a conceptual experience where guests of all ages are immersed in the beloved franchise’s storyline. Offering photo opportunities, interactive elements, and a themed café with special food items.
The experience is designed to capture the essence of Scooby-Doo, tapping into nostalgia for longtime fans while introducing the franchise to a new generation. The space features both family-friendly elements and designs that cater to older audiences, creating a seamless transition between age groups. Guests can enter for free, with activities available for an additional charge.
Research and Ideation
I audited the space with photos, measurements, and flow analysis to optimize layout. I studied similar experiences like Area 15’s flexible, paid, choose-your-adventure model for engagement ideas.
My moodboards combined visual style with interactive concepts. Market research confirmed this Scooby-Doo experience is unique by reviewing past offerings and local entertainment, while identifying the target audience and their preferences.
Zoning & Modelling
Research insights informed the development of bubble, zoning, and circulation diagrams tailored to key user personas, guiding the placement of elements within Toronto’s Downsview Supply Depot.
Building on this, I created a dimensioned floor plan and 3D SketchUp model, using the latter to visualize and diagram the tiered ticketing structure across zones.
Brand Identity & Visualizations
Given the many existing brand identities for Scooby-Doo, the chosen colours and fonts were designed to feel authentic to the Scooby-Doo universe rather than replicate a specific version. The palette, pulled from the Mystery Machine, and familiar motifs create an immediate visual connection to the IP.
To bring Scooby-Doo: Monster Mayhem to life, I developed zone mockups, including the Mystery Machine photo op, Captain Cutler’s Mini Putt, the Phantom Virus Arcade, and the Sea Beast’s Laser Tag.
Detailed Door Chase Room
Guests enter a dynamic door-chase zone inspired by Scooby-Doo and the Phantom Shadow. Some doors lead to interconnected rooms containing clues about the monster, while others open to reveal digital monsters on screens. This zone recreates the iconic hallway chase scenes from the series, with a hidden back corridor allowing guests to move quickly between doors, enhancing the playful, fast-paced experience.
